29 August 2006, 6 p.m. - Krzysztof Wojtarowicz Exhibition lasts till 17 september 2006. The artist (1957-2004) was a graduate of Warsaw's Academy of Fine Arts. Aside from painting, he also tried his hand at designing stage sets and exhibitions. He had designed many shows at the National Museum, including the popular End of the Century and The Mysterious Queen Hatshepsut. Wojtarowicz had presented his work at numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad. His latest collection of paintings played with motifs not encountered in his earlier work. The most distinctive elements in his paintings were figures garbed in the tribal costumes of the masai people (of Kenya and Tanzania) depicted in a strange realm, as if torn out of their natural environment. The fragmentary realism of these presentations consists of the mixing of realistic elements with the world of artistic imagination and illusion.
