About artist:![]() Born in Bogucice near Wieliczka on Februrary 12th, 1930. He studied art history at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, (graduating in 1954) and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Professor Adam Marczyński(graduating in 1955). Since 1957, he has collaborated as an illustrator and graphic designer with publishing houses including the Nasza Księgrnia, Ruch, Czytelnik, KAW Publishers and Interpress in Warsaw; the Literary Publishers in Cracow. In 1963, he began to work for foreign publishers: the Flammarion, Paris; Middelhauve Verlag, Cologne (1963); Loewes Verlag, Bayreuth (1970); Kinderbuchverlag, Berlin (1973); Parabel Verlag, Monachium (1973); Atlantis Verlag, Zurych (1975); Bohem Press, Zurych (1979); Nord-Süd Verlag, Monchaltorf (1980); Patos Verlag, Düsseldorf (1985); Atelier Muze Ltd., Saitama (1985); and Green Peace Publishers, Tokyo (1988). Jozef Wilkoń has illustrated and designed over a hundred books for children and adults published at home, and over 60 books published abroad. He contributes illustrations for magazines and designs postcards, calendars and smalles prints. He is active as a painter and stage designer (the W. Horzyca Theatre in Toruń, 1978) and tapestry designer (for the St. Wyspiański Cooperative in Cracow, 1980).
